Apple Dumplings Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 large apple (a tart variety like Granny Smith is preferred)
  • 1 can Pillsbury Crescent dough
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2/3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup (6 oz.) 7-Up or any similar carbonated drink

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven and Prep Dish:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Apples:
    • Peel and core the apple. Cut into 8-10 wedges.
    • Pat the apple wedges dry with a paper towel.
  3. Wrap the Apples:
    • Separate the crescent dough into triangles.
    • Place an apple wedge on the wide end of each triangle and roll it towards the pointed end, enclosing the apple.
    • Pinch the ends to seal and place the dumpling in the prepared baking dish.
  4. Make the Sauce:
    • In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
    • Stir in the sugar and cinnamon, and cook until the mixture thickens slightly.
    • Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Assemble:
    • Pour the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the dumplings in the baking dish.
    • Pour the 7-Up around the edges of the dumplings, being careful not to pour it over the dough to prevent it from becoming soggy.
  6. Bake:
    • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven.
    • Bake for 35-45 minutes or until the dumplings are golden brown and the dough is cooked through.
  7. Cool and Serve:
    • Remove the dumplings from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack.
    • Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
