Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces

  • 2 cups penne pasta (uncooked)

  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 cup fresh spinach leaves

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Optional: Fresh basil, for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat and Prep

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  • Lightly grease a large baking dish and set aside.

Step 2: Cook the Pasta

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

  • Cook the penne pasta according to package directions until al dente.

  • Drain and set aside.

Step 3: Cook the Chicken

  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.

  • Add the chicken pieces, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 5–7 minutes, until golden and cooked through.

  • Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 4: Create the Creamy Sauce

  • Stir in the heavy cream and Italian seasoning.

  • Let the sauce simmer gently for 2–3 minutes to thicken slightly.

Step 5: Combine and Layer

  • Add the marinara sauce, cooked pasta, and spinach to the skillet.

  • Toss everything together until well combined and the spinach wilts slightly.

  • Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.

Step 6: Top and Bake

  • Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.

  • Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden.

Step 7: Serve

  • Let the pasta bake cool for a few minutes.

  • Garnish with fresh basil if desired before serving.

Notes

  • Fresh herbs like basil or parsley add a vibrant pop of color and flavor just before serving.

  • For a richer sauce, stir in a few tablespoons of cream cheese along with the heavy cream.
