Ingredients
Scale
- 2 to 2 ½ lbs chicken legs or wings
- ½ cup soy sauce
- ½ cup honey
- ¼ cup ketchup
- ¼ cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons apple cider or white vinegar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional)
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and lightly grease it.
- Make the Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, garlic, ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
- Coat the Chicken: Place the chicken on the prepared baking sheet and pour the sauce over it, ensuring each piece is well-coated.
- Bake: Bake for 50-60 minutes, turning the chicken every 15-20 minutes and basting with the sauce to thicken and caramelize it.
- Optional Broil: For extra caramelization, broil for the last 3-5 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired, then serve hot.
Notes
- For a gluten-free version, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
- If the sauce is too thin, simmer it on the stovetop for 5-10 minutes to thicken.
- Serve with extra sauce on the side for dipping.
