  • Author: easysweetmeal
  • Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
  • Yield: 4-6 servings 1x

Description

These caramelized chicken legs or wings are the perfect combination of sweet, savory, and a little bit of spice. The rich, sticky glaze made with honey, soy sauce, and a touch of ginger transforms simple chicken into a flavorful, irresistible dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 to 2 ½ lbs chicken legs or wings
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup honey
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider or white vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and lightly grease it.
  2. Make the Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, garlic, ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  3. Coat the Chicken: Place the chicken on the prepared baking sheet and pour the sauce over it, ensuring each piece is well-coated.
  4. Bake: Bake for 50-60 minutes, turning the chicken every 15-20 minutes and basting with the sauce to thicken and caramelize it.
  5. Optional Broil: For extra caramelization, broil for the last 3-5 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired, then serve hot.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
  • If the sauce is too thin, simmer it on the stovetop for 5-10 minutes to thicken.
  • Serve with extra sauce on the side for dipping.
