Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large onions, sliced into rings (yellow or sweet onions work best)
- 200g all-purpose flour (for the coating)
- 1 tsp paprika (adds a smoky flavor)
- 1 tsp garlic powder (enhances the savory taste)
- Salt and pepper, to taste (to season)
- 2 eggs, beaten (helps the breadcrumbs adhere)
- 200g breadcrumbs (for the crispy coating)
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil works well)
For the Spicy Mayo:
- 50 ml mayonnaise (creamy base)
- 1–2 tsp hot sauce (adjust to your spice preference)
- 1 tsp lime juice (adds a tangy kick)
For Garnish:
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for a pop of color and freshness)
Instructions
Prepare the Onion Rings:
- Slice the onions into ½-inch thick rings and separate them.
- In a bowl, mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- Next, dip the floured rings into the beaten eggs, ensuring they’re fully coated.
- Finally, coat the rings evenly with breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
Fry the Onion Rings:
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pan to 375°F (190°C).
- Fry the onion rings in batches for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the rings and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Make the Spicy Mayo:
- In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise, hot sauce, and lime juice until well combined. Adjust the spice level to your liking.
Serve:
- Arrange the crispy onion rings on a serving plate.
- Drizzle with the spicy mayo or serve it on the side as a dipping sauce.
- Garnish with chopped parsley for a fresh touch.
Notes
- For extra crunch, use panko breadcrumbs instead of regular breadcrumbs.
- If you don’t have hot sauce, use a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili flakes in the mayo.
- Always taste and adjust the seasoning of the spicy mayo before serving.
