Ingredients:
- 1 cup stone-ground cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour

Instructions:
Step 1:
- Combine the cornmeal, flour, garlic powder, and cayenne in a large bowl.
- Pour the buttermilk into another bowl and season with salt and pepper.
Step 2:
- Dip the tomato slices in the buttermilk, coating both sides.
- Coat the tomatoes with the cornmeal mixture.
- Place a skillet over medium heat and coat with vegetable oil.
Step 3:
- When the oil is hot, fry the tomatoes for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
- Carefully remove the tomatoes from the pan and drain on paper towels.
