Ingredients:

For the Doughnuts:

  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 3 teaspoons boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon dry yeast
  • 8 ounces flour (just under 2 cups)
  • 1 1/2 ounces sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ounce butter, at room temperature
  • 1 pinch salt
  • Oil for frying

For the Glaze:

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 teaspoons warm water

Instructions:

  1. In a measuring jug, combine milk and boiling water. Add a teaspoon of sugar and yeast. Gently stir, then leave it in a warm place until the yeast activates and froths.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Cut the butter in with your hands or using a pastry blender until it resembles crumbs. Add eggs and yeast mixture to the flour mixture and mix until smooth, about 5 minutes.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured counter and knead for 5 to 10 minutes until you feel a spring and small bubbles form under the surface. Place it back in the bowl, cover with a cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise for about an hour until it doubles in size.
  4. Once risen, place the dough on the counter and cut it into four pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope about 1 to 1.5 inches wide. Cut strips approximately 2.5 cm long, shape into balls with your hands, and place on a baking tray or wire rack to rise.
  5. Cover the dough balls with a cloth to allow them to rise while heating the oil to 375 degrees F.
  6. Fry the doughnuts until golden brown on each side, about 2 minutes. Fry in small batches to avoid crowding.
  7. Drain on a paper towel or wire rack before glazing. Make sure to glaze them while they’re still warm for that delicious coverage.
  8. For the Glaze: In a separate bowl, melt butter, then add confectioners’ sugar, vanilla extract, and warm water. Whisk until smooth.
  9. Dip each doughnut into the glaze, ensuring even coverage.
  10. Enjoy these homemade Krispy Kremes.
