Ingredients:
For the Steaks:
- 1 lb Ground beef
- 1/4 cup Breadcrumbs
- 1 Large egg
- 1/2 Onion, chopped fine
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp Olive oil
- 1 Package refrigerated prepared mashed potatoes (cooked to package instructions)
For the Gravy:
- 2 tbsp Butter
- 8 oz Sliced mushrooms
- 2 cups Beef broth
- 2 tbsp Flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Steaks:
- In a bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, and salt and pepper to taste.
- Mix with your hands until well combined.
- Form the meat mixture into four even patties.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the patties to the skillet and sauté for a few minutes on each side until evenly seared. Remove and set aside.
2. Prepare the Gravy:
- Remove excess fat from the skillet.
- Place butter and mushrooms into the skillet over medium heat, sauté until the mushrooms begin to soften.
- Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms, stir to combine well.
- Slowly whisk in the beef broth and add salt and pepper to taste if needed.
3. Finish the Dish:
- Return the seared patties to the skillet, reduce heat to medium-low.
- Simmer until the meat is cooked through and the gravy is thickened.
4. Serve:
- Serve the Salisbury steaks over the prepared mashed potatoes.
- Spoon the mushroom gravy over the top.
