- 1 small head cabbage, chopped
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- ½ cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese
Instructions
1. Prepare Oven and Pan
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish lightly with oil or cooking spray.
2. Cook the Ground Beef
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until fully browned.
- Drain any excess fat.
3. Sauté Aromatics
- Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet.
- Cook for 2–3 minutes until fragrant and softened.
4. Make the Tomato Sauce
- Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beef broth.
- Add paprika, oregano, salt, and black pepper.
- Simmer the mixture for 5 minutes to blend flavors.
5. Layer the Casserole
- In the prepared baking dish, layer half of the chopped cabbage.
- Pour half of the beef mixture over the cabbage.
- Repeat with the remaining cabbage and beef mixture.
6. Bake Covered
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
7. Add Cheese and Finish Baking
- Remove foil and sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake uncovered for another 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
8. Serve
- Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.
