  • 1 small head cabbage, chopped
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese

Instructions

1. Prepare Oven and Pan

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish lightly with oil or cooking spray.

2. Cook the Ground Beef

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until fully browned.
  • Drain any excess fat.

3. Sauté Aromatics

  • Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet.
  • Cook for 2–3 minutes until fragrant and softened.

4. Make the Tomato Sauce

  • Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beef broth.
  • Add paprika, oregano, salt, and black pepper.
  • Simmer the mixture for 5 minutes to blend flavors.

5. Layer the Casserole

  • In the prepared baking dish, layer half of the chopped cabbage.
  • Pour half of the beef mixture over the cabbage.
  • Repeat with the remaining cabbage and beef mixture.

6. Bake Covered

  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil.
  • Bake for 30 minutes.

7. Add Cheese and Finish Baking

  • Remove foil and sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the top.
  • Bake uncovered for another 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

8. Serve

  • Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.
