- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon freshly cracked or ground black pepper
- 3/4 cup vegetable oil
- 3 cups beef broth or water
- 1 large yellow onion, sliced
- 3 cloves of fresh garlic, minced
- Additional salt and pepper for taste
Instructions:
- Season the oxtails with 2 teaspoons of kosher salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper.
- Drizzle Worcestershire sauce over the oxtails, ensuring they’re well coated.
- Sprinkle 1/4 cup of flour over the oxtails, coating them evenly.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the oxtails and brown them on all sides.
- Remove the browned oxtails from the pan and place them in a slow cooker.
- If there are burnt pieces in the pan, pour out the oil, strain it, clean the pan, then return the strained oil to the pan.
- Gradually add the remaining flour to the pan, whisking continuously until it turns brown and resembles chunky peanut butter.
- Slowly pour in the beef broth or water, whisking continuously to avoid lumps.
- Bring the gravy to a full boil, then reduce the heat to medium. Add the sliced onions and garlic, stirring well.
- Do a taste test and adjust salt and pepper as needed.
- Pour the gravy over the oxtails in the slow cooker, ensuring they are fully covered.
- Set the slow cooker to high and cook for 8 hours.
- Serve the oxtails with mashed potatoes, rice, or your preferred side dish.
