Ingredients:
- 4 cups sliced fresh peaches
- 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- Ground cinnamon, for sprinkling
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine peaches, 1/2 cup sugar, and water. Stir and cook until sugar is dissolved and peaches are soft, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Place butter in a 9×13 inch baking dish and melt in the preheating oven.
- In a bowl, mix together flour, the remaining 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in milk until just combined.
- Pour batter evenly over melted butter in the baking dish, but do not stir.
- Spoon peach mixture over the batter, gently pouring in syrup as well. Again, do not stir.
- Sprinkle the top with ground cinnamon.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, until the crust rises to the top and turns golden brown.
- Serve warm, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream
