Ingredients:

  • 8 ½ cups flour (approximately 1.1 kg)
  • 1.7 cups of warm water (400 ml)
  • 1.7 cups of yogurt (400 ml)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 pack dry instant yeast (10 g)
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • ½ cup butter (60 g), for coating

Method:

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, stir together the flour, dry instant yeast, yogurt, and salt. Gradually add the warm water, mixing until you obtain a fine dough.
  2. First Rising: Coat the dough lightly with vegetable oil. Cover the bowl with cling film or a clean kitchen towel. Leave the dough in a dry, warm place to rise.
  3. Form the Balls: Once the dough has risen, oil your hands and gently remove the dough from the bowl. Divide it into eight equal parts, forming each into a ball. Knead each ball slightly and then leave them to stand for an additional 15 minutes.
  4. Roll and Bake: Roll each dough ball into a circular shape. Preheat a pan over medium heat and bake each piece of bread until golden brown, flipping once to ensure even cooking.
  5. Add Butter: While each bread is still warm, brush the surface with melted butter for added flavor and softness.

Notes:

  • The dough should be soft and slightly sticky; avoid adding too much flour while kneading.
  • Turkish bread is best enjoyed warm and can be served with a variety of dips, cheeses, or as a side for soups and stews.
  • The baking time may vary depending on the thickness of the bread and the heat of your pan. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
