Lunchroom Ladies Brownies – 50-year-old recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Add the cocoa to the melted butter and mix until smooth.
  3. In a large bowl, combine flour and sugar.
  4. Stir the cocoa and butter mixture into the flour and sugar mixture.
  5. Add eggs and vanilla to the mixture, mixing well until fully combined. If you’re using chopped nuts, fold them into the batter.
  6. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it out evenly.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Check at 20 minutes to avoid over-baking.

Icing:

  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 1/4 cup canned milk (regular milk is fine)
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • Dash of salt

Instructions:

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter, milk, and cocoa. Mix until smooth.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar and a dash of salt to the mixture, mixing until smooth and creamy.
  3. Once the brownies have cooled, spread the icing evenly over the top.
