- In a large bowl, gently mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper.
- Form the mixture into 6–8 oval-shaped patties and set aside.
- Brown the patties in an oven-safe skillet for 3–4 minutes per side, then remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté sliced onions in butter. Add flour and stir for 2 minutes, then whisk in beef broth and cream.
- Nestle patties into the gravy. Cover tightly and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.
- Uncover and bake an additional 15 minutes.
- Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Use an 80/20 beef blend for the juiciest patties. Letting the dish rest before serving helps the gravy thicken beautifully.
