Ingredients
  

Donut Batter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 medium apple peeled, cored, and finely diced
  • as needed oil for frying
Glaze
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk more if needed
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Heat oil in a deep fryer or skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon in a large bowl.
  3. In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla until combined.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed. Fold in diced apple.
  5. Shape batter using a waffle iron or donut press, then fry in hot oil for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  6. Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to form a smooth glaze.
  7. Dip warm donuts into glaze and allow excess to drip off before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar before glazing or add a pinch of nutmeg to the batter. Best enjoyed warm.
