Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus extra for topping)

Equipment

  • 9-inch round cake pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • electric mixer or whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Rubber spatula
  • Cooling rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch round cake pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until creamy and well combined.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in 1 ¾ cups of the chocolate chips.
  5. Spread the dough evenly into the prepared cake pan. Sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup of chocolate chips on top for a decorative touch.
  6. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Cool in the pan before slicing and serving.

Notes

Top with a drizzle of melted chocolate, a scoop of ice cream, or decorate with frosting for a festive touch. For a chewier texture, slightly underbake and let cool in the pan.
