Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 1/4 cups whole milk
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted, for topping
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar for topping
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon for topping
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg for topping

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare an 8.5 × 4.5-inch loaf pan with nonstick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 60–70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few crumbs.
  6. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to parchment paper.
  7. While the loaf is still warm, brush the top with melted butter and generously sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar-nutmeg mixture.

Notes

For an extra donut-like crust, sprinkle half the topping on the loaf, let it cool completely, then brush with more melted butter and add the remaining topping.
