Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats to prevent sticking and promote even baking.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes. This step incorporates air for a tender texture.
- Beat in the egg until fully combined. Mix in the fresh orange juice and orange zest, ensuring the zest is evenly distributed throughout the dough.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Gently stir in chopped dried cranberries. If using, fold in white chocolate chips and nuts.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, and place 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden but centers remain soft. Do not overbake.
- Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack. Drizzle with orange glaze if desired.
Notes
For extra sweetness, add white chocolate chips. Chopped pecans or walnuts bring a lovely crunch. To make them festive, drizzle with an orange glaze made from powdered sugar and orange juice once cooled. Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
