Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cans (14.5 oz) green beans, drained (or 4 cups fresh/frozen)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 0.5 cup milk or beef broth
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1.5 cups French fried onions
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • 0.5 cup mushrooms, diced and sautéed (optional)
  • 1 tbsp ketchup or mustard (optional)

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Mixing spoon
  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • Oven
  • knife and cutting board

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the beef is browned and onions are soft. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in the green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well and transfer to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  4. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top, then add French fried onions.
  5. Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  6. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding sautéed mushrooms, a splash of ketchup or mustard for burger-like tang, or even crumbles for smokiness. You can swap beef for turkey to lighten it up. This dish reheats well and is perfect for potlucks.
