Method
- Rinse the cranberries under cold water and remove any stems or damaged berries.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the water and sugar over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Add the cranberries to the saucepan and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10–15 minutes, or until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
- If desired, stir in the cinnamon and salt.
- Remove from heat and let the sauce cool before serving.
Notes
For a smoother sauce, mash the cranberries as they cook. For added flavor, you may stir in orange zest or a splash of pure orange juice as a non-alcoholic enhancement.
