Ingredients

Main
  • 12 oz fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon optional
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Method

  1. Rinse the cranberries under cold water and remove any stems or damaged berries.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the water and sugar over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Add the cranberries to the saucepan and bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10–15 minutes, or until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
  5. If desired, stir in the cinnamon and salt.
  6. Remove from heat and let the sauce cool before serving.

Notes

For a smoother sauce, mash the cranberries as they cook. For added flavor, you may stir in orange zest or a splash of pure orange juice as a non-alcoholic enhancement.
