Ingredients
  

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) yellow or white cake mix
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)
  • optional red and green food coloring or sprinkles

Method
 

  1. In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
  2. Add egg and vanilla; mix until fully combined.
  3. Stir in cake mix until a thick dough forms.
  4. If desired, divide dough and tint with red or green food coloring for festive cookies.
  5. Chill dough in refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Roll dough into 1-inch balls, coat in powdered sugar, and place on prepared baking sheets.
  8. Bake 10–12 minutes, until edges are set but centers remain soft.
  9. Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to wire rack.

Notes

For a festive touch, divide the dough and tint with red or green food coloring before baking. You can also roll in colored sugar instead of powdered sugar for a fun variation. Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
