Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb pork sausage (or chicken/turkey sausage as substitute)
  • 12 medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 cups cooked long-grain rice
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 stalks celery, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil or butter
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 bay leaf (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups chicken or beef broth
  • Salt, to taste
  • Chopped green onions or parsley, for garnish

Method
 

  1. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet. Season shrimp with salt and pepper, then cook until pink (2–3 minutes). Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add ground beef and sausage. Cook until browned and crumbly. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Stir in onion, peppers, celery, and garlic. Cook 5 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  4. Add smoked paprika, cumin, black pepper, cayenne, thyme, and bay leaf. Stir, then pour in broth. Let simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Add cooked rice, stirring until fully combined and coated with flavor.
  6. Top with cooked shrimp and garnish with chopped green onions or parsley. Serve hot.

Notes

Adjust the spice level by reducing or omitting cayenne. For extra Cajun flavor, use andouille sausage. Leftovers reheat well and can also be frozen for up to 2 months.
