Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3 tsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp mustard
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 12 oz refrigerated biscuits, cut into quarters
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking pan
  • Large skillet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula
  • Whisk
  • Measuring spoons and cups

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and no longer pink, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in ketchup, water, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Mix until well combined.
  4. Let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes to blend the flavors, then remove from heat.
  5. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the meat mixture and quartered biscuits. Gently toss to coat.
  6. Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking pan.
  7. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  8. Bake for 28–30 minutes, or until biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Remove from oven, let rest for 5 minutes, and serve hot.

Notes

For extra flavor, add chopped bell peppers or onions when browning the beef. You can also use barbecue sauce instead of ketchup for a smokier twist. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat before serving.
