Method
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss to coat evenly.
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish and drizzle with salted caramel sauce.
- In a separate medium bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, and salt for the crumble topping. Whisk to combine.
- Cut in the cold, cubed butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the rolled oats until just combined.
- Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the apple mixture in the baking dish.
- Bake for 40–50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Notes
Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor balance. Granny Smith and Honeycrisp work beautifully together. Add chopped pecans to the topping for a nutty twist, and serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
