Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp BBQ sauce
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1-2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika

Equipment

  • oven-safe skillet
  • baking sheet (for tater tots)
  • Mixing spoon
  • oven broiler
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Bake frozen tater tots according to the package directions until golden and crispy.
  2. Heat olive oil in an oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and chopped onion; cook for 6-8 minutes, breaking up the beef until browned.
  3. Stir in minced garlic, salt, black pepper, onion powder, and paprika. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Mix in tomato sauce, ketchup, BBQ sauce, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes to blend flavors.
  5. Arrange crispy tater tots in a single layer over the beef mixture in the skillet.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top of the tater tots. Broil for 1-2 minutes until the cheese melts and bubbles.

Notes

For extra flavor, try using smoked paprika or add diced bell peppers with the onion. You can swap ground beef for ground turkey or chicken. Serve with a side salad to balance the richness.
