Ingredients

Cookie Dough
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • powdered sugar optional, for dusting

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla until fully incorporated.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix into the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  4. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll into balls. Place on the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Flatten slightly, then create ridges using a fork, potato masher, or washboard-style press.
  5. Bake for 11–13 minutes, until edges are just turning golden. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Optionally, dust cooled cookies with powdered sugar for a farmhouse-style finish.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. For extra flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the dough.
